The Interview Assessment Process

To ensure the highest standard of instruction and real-world expertise, we’ve developed a rigorous, three-stage interview process for selecting SBT Live Instructors. Each stage is designed to assess technical expertise, teaching ability, and relevant industry experience to ensure candidates are well-equipped to deliver impactful and engaging training.

Stage 1

Initial Screening

Objective

  • To evaluate technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to explain complex topics clearly.

Requirements

  • Submit a CV demonstrating your technical expertise.
  • Record and submit a 10-minute video explaining a highly technical topic of your choice. The video should:
    • Highlight your depth of knowledge.
    • Demonstrate your ability to break down complex ideas for divers audiences.
    • Reflect clear and confident communication skills.

Stage 2

Live Panel Assessment

Objective

  • To evaluate teaching capability and knowledge of course-relevant material in a live setting.

Format

  • Candidates will be given one hour to deliver a lesson on a technical topic relevant to the course they aim to teach.
  • The panel will consist of senior members of Security Blue Team and its Academic Advisory Board.

Expectations

  • Demonstrate depth and clarity in teaching a technical topic.
  • Show the ability to engage and explain concepts effectively, reflecting real-world applicability.
  • Discuss recent and relevant industry experience to establish credibility and authority.

Experience requirements

  • BTL1 Instructor Candidates: Minimum 4 years of cybersecurity field experience (teaching experience not included).
  • BTL2 Instructor Candidates: Minimum 6 years of cybersecurity field experience (teaching experience not included).
  • CSOM Instructor Candidates: Minimum 6 years of experience in security operations (teaching experience not included).

NOTE

Experience in previous BTL1/BTL2 training is NOT a prerequisite. For promising candidates, we will provide certification courses for these qualifications, adding to the compensation offered.

Stage 3

Onboarding the pool

Objective

  • To ensure understanding of the requirements of SBT Live Instructors within the Pool.

Format

  • A one-on-one interview with senior SBT instructors or leadership to:
    • Provide feedback on the Stage 2 lesson.
    • Discuss the candidate’s vision for their role as an SBT Live Instructor.
    • Confirm expectations for teaching and certification completion if required.

Outcome

Successful candidates will be onboarded with access to resources and support for course delivery, including allocated certification courses for those needing to achieve BTL1/BTL2/CSOM qualifications.
