SBT Wrapped: A Year in Stats

Welcome to the very first SBT Wrapped, where we’ll be sharing some stats from the past year.

Before we do, we would like to extend a huge thank you to you, our amazing community, without whom there would be no SBT.

We’ve got big things planned for 2025, and we’re looking forward to having you along for the journey.

But without further ado, here are some of our numbers from this year.

How many students took Security Blue Team courses this year?

There were a whopping 63,255 unique users within our eLearning platform this year, across our free blue team courses, paid courses, and full certifications. The top three countries for SBT users were the USA, UK, and India.

How many people passed Security Blue Team certifications this year?

3,304 students passed our junior blue team certification, Blue Team Level 1, while 222 passed our advanced cert, the BTL2. New for 2024, CSOM is our management-level cybersecurity certification, aimed at more experienced cyber pros. In its first year, 80 people passed the certification, which we think is pretty amazing for a newly launched, advanced course.

It's also interesting to note that an amazing 340,000 labs were launched across both eLearning and BTLO this year!

What about Blue Team Labs Online?

If you're curious about how many players we have on our gamified blue team training platform, BTLO, the answer is an incredible 94,311! The top three countries are the USA, UK and India again, with India and the UK swapping positions to 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

BTLO first bloods

The fastest completion time for any of our investigations this year was user 0x157 who finished the SPLUNK IT investigation in a remarkable eight minutes! For our seasonal events, Frostbyte and Trick or Threat, first blood was achieved in five hours, 49 minutes, and twelve hours, nine minutes respectively. It's worth noting that each of these events were comprised of multiple labs of varying difficulties, so not an easy feat! Well done to our talented players 0x157, Chicken_0248, and LonerVamp!

We hope you've found this little roundup interesting and would love to know whether you plan to use the winter break to take on any new challenges. Will you be tackling the BTL1, or trying your hand at our winter BTLO event (you have until January 3rd to take on Frostbyte)? Or perhaps you'll simply be enjoying a period of rest. Whatever you're up to this holiday season, we hope you enjoy it!

Thank you for reading, and we'll see you again in 2025!
