Infosec Europe 2024: The Security Blue Team Round-Up

Three busy days, one full van of merch, and nearly £50k worth of training given away. Infosec Europe may have been a couple of weeks ago, but we’re still buzzing!

Having a stand this year was an absolute honor. Not only did it represent a significant milestone for the company, but it gave us a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community, meet some great people, and spend time together as a team.

It provided not only the chance to showcase SBT's offerings but also gain invaluable insights into the latest goings on in the industry, as well as the individuals it serves.

While remote work has its advantages, in-person interactions add a different dynamic. Engaging in discussions, sharing ideas, and building personal connections enhanced our collaboration. This direct interaction strengthened our relationships and deepened our understanding of each other beyond virtual communication.

The recognition received by SBT at Infosec was truly heartening. Many attendees visited our booth specifically to express their gratitude for our blue team courses and resources. This positive feedback went beyond mere appreciation; it underscored the impact SBT is creating in the industry. Hearing firsthand how our content contributes to advancing careers reinforced my dedication to delivering top-notch education and support. It served as a reminder that our efforts genuinely make a difference in people's lives.

It was also exciting to unveil our new runner game, Port 80. In Port 80, players must help our defender (an adorable armadillo called Potatu) navigate an array of cyber threats. After a lot of planning, it was great to see people playing and enjoying the game, as well as taking home their prize plushies (we even had some fun ourselves taking Potatu on some adventures around London!).

A key lesson I learned was effectively communicating SBT's purpose. Answering questions about what SBT does felt very similar to responding to the classic interview question "Tell me about yourself" which, as we all know, can be deceptively challenging despite its simplicity! This experience honed my skills when it comes to articulating our mission and services more clearly. It was an exercise in clear, succinct communication, helping me refine how I present our company to new audiences.

Engaging with industry experts was another enlightening aspect of the event. Having a passion for cybersecurity myself, interacting with leaders and innovators proved both motivating and informative. These conversations offered insights into industry trends and best practices, sparking innovative ideas for our marketing strategies. Observing how other organizations operate and promote themselves offered fresh perspectives on enhancing our approach.

Infosec served as an outstanding platform for SBT to strengthen team cohesion and brainstorm ideas for future events. The sense of community, wealth of knowledge, and inspiration drawn from industry figures made it an unforgettable event. As we plan for upcoming activities, we carry forward the insights gained at Infosec with the aim of enhancing our presence within the community and continually contributing positively to the industry. A huge thank you to everyone who came to speak to us, it was great to meet you all!

I am enthusiastic about the prospects ahead and confident that the lessons from Infosec will steer us towards boosting our influence. I’m looking forward to many more events, connections, and pioneering initiatives that not only bring us closer as a team, but also help us connect with our current and prospective students.

All we can say is, roll on Black Hat 2024. We’ll see you in Las Vegas!
