Faces of SBT: Trevor, Director of Cloud Services

Welcome to our first Faces of SBT blog post, where we’ll be showcasing a member of our team and giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to work at SBT. First up is Trevor, our Director of Cloud Services.

Trevor has been with us since January 2021, and says it’s been a “great and exciting ride ever since”.

Describe your role at Security Blue Team

As Director of Cloud Services, I help shape our cloud strategies, build and lead a fantastic team, and make sure we create top-notch, secure, scalable cloud solutions for SBT and, by extension, our customers. My job is a mix of big-picture strategy and getting into the nitty-gritty of cloud technologies.

What does a day in your life look like?

Every day’s a little different, but most start with checking in on our projects to see what’s working and what needs some attention. I spend a lot of time collaborating with my team, troubleshooting, and brainstorming ways to improve what we do. There’s always something to learn or a problem to solve, which keeps things exciting.

What drew you to SBT?

The company’s focus on innovation was a big pull for me. I love working with cutting-edge cloud technology, and the chance to drive real impact for a startup company that could deliver on a global scale? That sealed the deal.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s incredibly satisfying to see how cloud solutions can completely support and transform a business. I enjoy existing in an innovative tech space where no two years of work are alike. There are always new things to build and existing structures to improve.

In general, I’m just grateful for the journey so far and the chance to work in a field I genuinely enjoy. Here’s to continuing to learn, grow, and make a difference!

What are you most excited about in 2025?

I’m excited to be growing the Cloud Services department over the coming year and drive, along with my excellent team, some key projects that will immensely change the way SBT utilizes cloud space. These technologies are game-changers, and I can’t wait to see these projects come to fruition!

What’s your background?

I feel I’ve been in IT all my life. I was the kid at school who maintained the class's fleet of laptops, I was the kid who stayed after school and helped maintain the school's computers, and I was the kid who scraped together money from odd jobs to build my own PC. I’m happy to have found my way back into IT professionally over the years.

My background includes a mix of hands-on technical roles, like Cloud Solutions Architect, Infrastructure Engineer(cloud), Developer(web) and various leadership positions where I’ve managed teams and projects. I’ve worked across different industries, which has taught me how to tailor solutions to fit unique business needs as well as a good understanding of what it takes to run a start-up. I even ran my own for some time!

My education set some foundations, a coding bootcamp introduced me to the professional world of IT, but it’s the real-world experience that’s shaped how I approach challenges today.

What are your ambitions for SBT and your career in particular?

For SBT, my main ambition is to grow and structure all aspects of our cloud services. I want to identify and drive innovation, ensuring we’re not just keeping up with the industry but thriving within it. I’m focused on developing the department to maintain systems in sustainable, efficient ways while building a strong, inspiring cloud culture that motivates our team to achieve great results.

Personally, I want to continue honing my leadership skills and staying at the forefront of technology to ensure I can keep driving meaningful change and growth for the business.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

When I’m not working, I’m with my family, gaming, or geeking out over fantasy and sci-fi—The Lord of the Rings will always be a favourite. I also enjoy finding little moments to recharge, whether it’s reading, running, hiking, or just hanging out.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?

As I said earlier, I’ve always been into tech. As a kid, I thought working with computers or building cool stuff would be amazing. Turns out, I wasn’t too far off.
